Most people would like to slow the visible signs of aging, especially on the face—and the market reflects that. In 2018, the global anti-aging market was valued at about $50.2 billion U.S. dollars, and it is projected to reach $83.2 billion by 2027.
While creams and serums account for a large share of sales, minimally invasive procedures such as botulinum toxin and dermal filler injections are also rising. A 2018 report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons recorded roughly 7.4 million botulinum toxin treatments and 2.6 million filler treatments in the United States alone, making them the second most popular minimally invasive cosmetic procedures that year.
These injections are generally more effective than topical products, but they carry possible drawbacks. Common side effects of botulinum toxin include bruising, swelling, headache, and localized issues such as drooping eyelids or uneven brows. Long-term safety data are limited, and each session can cost hundreds of dollars, so expenses add up quickly.
Light therapy is one non-invasive alternative. Red and near-infrared wavelengths are thought to stimulate mitochondrial activity, increasing ATP production and, in turn, collagen and elastin synthesis. Over time, this may soften fine lines and restore skin fullness without needles or downtime.

A 2014 study reported that users of red light therapy noted improved skin complexion and a measurable rise in collagen. Angela Lamb, M.D., associate professor of dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, explains that red light therapy may help preserve existing collagen and encourage new production, while also supporting skin texture, tone, pore appearance, and fine lines.
Beyond collagen, light therapy may soften fine lines and wrinkles, reduce scarring, calm acne, ease inflammation, and assist muscle recovery.
Multiple small studies suggest consistent anti-aging benefits. Rhonda Klein, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist in Connecticut, notes that “Realistically, you can expect RLT to improve your skin’s tone and texture. We see it soothe inflammation, improve mild acne, and soften early fine lines and wrinkles, among other effects.”
Lunas’ red light therapy devices are registered with the FDA and certified to ISO medical-device standards, aiming to deliver reliable home treatments.
